Yagluth

The fifth Forsaken boss of Valheim, a crowned Fuling skeleton in the Plains with 10,000 health, summoned with five Fuling Totems, who fights with meteors, a fire beam and a lightning nova and drops the Torn Spirit needed for the Mistlands.

Yagluth is the fifth of the Forsaken bosses of Valheim, the ruler of the Plains and, for the first twenty-two months of early access, the game's final boss. He is a gigantic, half-buried Fuling skeleton wearing a crown of black metal swords, with 10,000 health, and he is summoned by placing five Fuling Totems on his altar (Physgun boss checklist; Valheim wiki). Unlike the four bosses before him he fights almost entirely with fire and lightning at range, and he is the first boss against whom the bow is a poor choice. His defeat yields the Torn Spirit, the material for the Wisp Fountain that makes the Mistlands navigable, and his trophy grants a Forsaken Power that since the Call to Arms Update boosts damage and farming.

Lore and appearance

Yagluth is the ancient king of the Fulings, the goblin folk of the Plains, and one of Odin's Forsaken: creatures too proud to serve the All-Father and banished to the tenth world for it (see Lore and Setting). His summoning stone reads "Long ages past, he wore a crown, beneath a blood-red sky. Now naught is left of all he was, but his spirit cannot die," and his trophy description adds that "sometimes, the eyes still move and the lips mutter silently" (Valheim wiki). In the game files he is simply the GoblinKing. Only his skull, ribcage and two enormous hands rise above the ground; he drags himself along on his fists rather than walking, and the Fuling Totems that call him are carved in his crowned likeness.

Finding the altar

Yagluth's Forsaken Altar stands in the Plains inside a ring of tall stone fingers that jut out of the grass. Its position can be revealed by a Vegvisir runestone, but Yagluth's Vegvisir spawns only at the Stonehenge-like stone circles of the Plains and has a very small chance of appearing at all, so the wiki notes that it is often easier to find the altar directly than to find the runestone that points to it (Valheim wiki). Guides recommend sailing the coastlines of every Plains biome on the map and watching for the hand-shaped rocks; GlensGames explored six Plains before finding his.

Fuling Totems

Five Fuling Totems, described in-game as channeling "the ancient power of Yagluth," must be placed on the altar. They are gathered from the Fuling villages and outposts of the Plains and occasionally from Fuling Berserkers, and they weigh 1, stack to 30 and pass through Portals, so they can be collected across several expeditions (Fuling totem, Valheim wiki). A totem stands on a pedestal; if the pedestal is destroyed before the totem is picked up, the totem is lost.

The villages themselves are the hardest part of the errand. Fulings, Berserkers and Shamans attack in numbers, and Deathsquitos patrol the open grass; see Plains Creatures for the bestiary and Combat for how to survive it.

Preparation

The standard kit is a fully upgraded Padded Armor set, the best available health and stamina food, medium healing meads and, above all, Fire Resistance Barley Wine, brewed from barley grown in the Plains (Mead and Potions). Because the altar's stone pillars can be smashed mid-fight, players flatten the ground around the altar with the hoe, wall the arena to keep wandering Fulings and Lox out, and sometimes raise pillars of earth with the hoe, which block meteors and never break. A portal a short distance away, a chest of spare gear at the spawn point, Anti-sting Concoction against Deathsquitos, and a start at dawn to avoid the night spawns are the other common recommendations (MalinaPlays guide). See also Armor and Capes.

Summoning and the fight

Interacting with the altar after placing the five totems starts the encounter. Yagluth claws his way slowly out of the ground and cannot act until he is fully risen, so the first seconds are free damage: guides advise standing at his spine and attacking through the whole animation (Valheim wiki).

Once up, he has three abilities, each telegraphed by a different gesture. Raising his right hand, which glows blue, precedes a fist slam that releases an expanding nova of fire and lightning and leaves lingering blue flames on the ground. Raising his left hand, glowing red, calls down a shower of meteors on and around the player. Tilting his head back and drawing breath precedes a rotating beam of fire from his mouth. Meteors are dodged by keeping the stone pillars between the player and the sky, the beam by sidestepping, and the slam by blocking, parrying or dodge-rolling (Valheim wiki).

Attack Cooldown Damage Notes
Beam 15 s 20 projectiles of 40 fire, 20 lightning, 50 chop, 50 pickaxe 40 m range; applies Burning and Lightning
Meteors 25 s 10 stones, each 40 blunt, 120 fire, 50 chop, 50 pickaxe in a 5 m blast Fall from 50 m within a 15 m sphere; applies Burning
Nova 20 s 65 fire, 65 lightning, 100 chop, 100 pickaxe in a 10 m sphere Lingering blue fire does a further 100 fire over time

Damage figures are from the Valheim wiki. The chop and pickaxe components are why the attacks demolish pillars, walls and terrain.

The fight is a cycle: close in, absorb or dodge the slam, land a combo while he recovers, retreat when the left hand rises, return once the meteors stop. Yagluth also regenerates health slowly when left alone, so even a weak hit during a retreat is worth landing to interrupt it (MalinaPlays). Solo, the encounter typically takes ten minutes or more.

Resistances and weapon choice

Yagluth is immune to poison and stagger, very resistant to pierce and resistant to fire, and neutral to everything else. That rules out the bow, the spear and the Black Metal Atgeir and Knife, all pierce weapons, and it means the Plains' own tier of gear adds little: GlensGames found the Silver Sword and Frostner from the Mountain out-performed every black metal weapon, and recommended crafting only the Black Metal Shield from the new tier. Spirit damage, carried by the Silver Sword, is fully effective. Frost arrows are the only ammunition that does worthwhile damage (Bows, Crossbows and Arrows). See Weapons and Shields.

Damage type Modifier
Poison, Stagger, Chop, Pickaxe Immune
Pierce Very resistant (x0.25)
Fire Resistant (x0.5)
Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning, Spirit Neutral (x1)

Alternative strategies

Because nearly all of Yagluth's damage is fire, the Wet status effect (Weather, Cold and Wet) can replace Barley Wine: a player standing in shallow water absorbs the burning from the nova and can even block meteors on a shield, at the cost of slower stamina regeneration. The Fenris armor set's built-in fire resistance does the same job for those who have it.

The best-known cheese is the bonfire pit borrowed from the Moder fight: dig a hole, set four bonfires and a workbench in it, roof it with wooden floors and summon the boss with no other building pieces in sight. Yagluth crawls onto the platform and burns; GlensGames' kill took five minutes of repairing bonfires. Because his belly hangs through the floor, a pit of the right height also lets a player stab him from below. Other methods are a pack of at least fifteen two-star tamed wolves, which usually die in the attempt (Farming and Taming), and trapping him on an artificial island to shoot 200 or more frost arrows from a distant rested hut (215 arrows and seven minutes in GlensGames' test). Iron Gate has patched several of the older stuck-boss exploits.

Drops: the trophy and the Torn Spirit

Yagluth drops his trophy and three Torn Spirits, "the remains of Yagluth, a twisted spirit torn between this world and the next." One Torn Spirit and 10 Stone at a Stonecutter build a Wisp Fountain, which gathers wisps at night and in rain; a wisp becomes the Wisplight that pushes back the mist of the Mistlands, the biome that follows the Plains (Torn spirit and Wisp fountain, Valheim wiki). Before the Mistlands Update of December 2022 the drop was a placeholder called the "Yagluth thing" with no use; the update renamed and recoloured it. Like every boss he can be summoned and killed again for more spirits.

Forsaken Power

Hanging the trophy at the Sacrificial Stones unlocks Yagluth's power. Until 2025 it gave 50 percent resistance to fire, frost and lightning for five minutes, which made it a defensive pick for the Mistlands and for repeat Yagluth kills. The Call to Arms update of Aug 20, 2025 (patch 0.221.3) rebalanced every power and changed his to 50 percent lightning resistance, +25 to the Farming skill (Skills) and 10 percent more damage of every type; the duration is still 300 seconds with a 20-minute cooldown (Game Rant patch notes; Game8). The damage bonus makes it one of the strongest offensive powers in the game, and the farming bonus is the only skill boost any power gives. See Forsaken Powers for the full set.

Effects on the world

Yagluth's army arrives before he does. Killing Moder enables the raid "The horde is attacking," in which up to eight Fulings, two Berserkers and a Shaman are sent at a base in the Meadows, Black Forest or Plains over 120 seconds, spawning in staggered waves rather than all at once (Raids and Events). Killing Yagluth disables that raid and enables two Mistlands events, "What's up Gjall?!" and "They sought you out." It also lets ordinary Fulings roam the Meadows, Black Forest and Mountain at night, puts Eggs on sale at Haldor for 1,500 coins and adds a Grasslands herbalist harvest to The Bog Witch's stock (Valheim wiki).

Yagluth after 1.0

Yagluth was the last boss from the game's February 2021 early-access launch until The Queen arrived with the Mistlands in December 2022, and was pushed back a further step by Fader in 2024. The Valheim 1.0 Release of Sep 9, 2026 made him one of the earlier bosses that the player must face again in the gauntlet before Kall Fimbulbringer in the Deep North, where he appears alongside Moder and his beam is as lethal as ever. Iron Gate's 1.0 patch notes do not mention Yagluth, and the Plains, like the other biomes below the Deep North, is unchanged apart from the global rebalances of the release (Valheim 1.0 Has Arrived!).

Frequently asked questions

How do you summon Yagluth? Place five Fuling Totems on his altar in the Plains. Totems stand beside the bonfires of Fuling villages at a 50 per cent chance each, are guaranteed in some outpost variants, and drop from Berserkers one time in ten; they weigh 1 and pass through Portals, so they can be gathered over several trips.

What is Yagluth weak to? Nothing. He is immune to poison and stagger, very resistant to pierce and resistant to fire, and neutral to everything else, which rules out bows, spears and the Black Metal Atgeir and Knife. The Silver Sword and Frostner from the Mountain out-perform the Plains' own black metal tier.

How do you avoid Yagluth's meteors? Keep something solid between yourself and the sky. The altar's own stone fingers work until they are smashed, which is why players raise pillars of earth with the hoe instead: those block the meteors and never break.

What does Yagluth drop? His trophy and three Torn Spirits. One Torn Spirit and 10 Stone at a Stonecutter build a Wisp Fountain, whose wisps become the Wisplight that pushes back the mist of the Mistlands, so this kill is what opens the next biome.

Do you need Fire Resistance Barley Wine for Yagluth? It is the standard kit, along with fully upgraded Padded Armor and medium healing meads. Two substitutes work because nearly all his damage is fire: standing in shallow water for the Wet effect, or the Fenris armor set's built-in fire resistance.
