Kall Fimbulbringer
Kall Fimbulbringer is the eighth and final boss of Valheim, a chained Jotun imprisoned beyond the Aesir Passage in the Deep North. Summoned with three Malicious Blood, he fights in three phases and drops the Crown Jewel and the Sacrificial Blood that ends the game.
Kall Fimbulbringer is the eighth and last of the Forsaken in Valheim, the boss of the Deep North and the end of the progression that began with Eikthyr. He is a Jotun, a frost giant, held in chains inside a dungeon called The Prison, which lies behind the Aesir Passage; when a Viking walks in he tears himself free and the fight begins (Game8). He arrived with Valheim 1.0 Release on Sep 9, 2026, whose patch notes list him simply as "Boss: Kall Fimbulbringer" (Iron Gate on Steam). Unlike every boss before him he is not summoned at an open-air altar with trophies, and he leaves no trophy behind: his drops are the Crown Jewel, which crafts the Crown of Valheim, and the Sacrificial Blood that triggers the game's ending. The Steam achievement for killing him is named "The Shackled One" (games.gg).

Reaching the Aesir Passage
Kall is summoned at the Strange Bowl in the center of an Aesir Passage, a stone structure in the Deep North (Game8). Offering three Malicious Blood at the bowl opens a portal into The Prison. The passage's location is revealed by a vegvisir found at the bottom of a Mörkhalla dungeon or at one of the memorial altars where Memorial Coal summons ghostly Vikings (Kysen).
Gathering the blood is the longest chain of tasks in the game, and the full loop is described on Deep North. In short: moulds from the Winding Tunnels and Bloodgold at the Frost Foundry make Intricate Keys (Metals and Smelting); each key opens one Gates of Mörkhalla; at the bottom of that dungeon stands a block of Malicious Ice, and smashing it starts a Jotun Invasion somewhere else in the world, marked on the map like a raid (Raids and Events).
The invasion freezes the biome it lands in and fills it with Krigen, Hexen and Elaking fighting whatever lives there (Deep North Creatures). It persists until the player fights through to its epicenter and breaks the Malicious Ice at its heart, which yields one Malicious Blood and the message that the Jotun retreat. Three keys, three dungeons and three invasions are therefore needed for a single summoning (Game8; BisectHosting). The steps before it have their own pages: Mörkhalla and Jotun Invasion.
The fight
The Valheim Wiki gives Kall three health pools, one per phase: 10,000, then 7,000, then 30,000, or 47,000 in total; the phases have the internal ids FrozenKing_0, FrozenKing_p2 and FrozenKing_p3 (Valheim Wiki). Physgun's datamine lists a single figure of 40,000 (Physgun). He deals blunt, pierce, frost and fire damage, and takes extra damage from nothing:
| Damage type | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Blunt, slash, poison | ×1 (neutral) |
| Pierce, fire, frost, lightning | ×0.5 (resistant) |
| Spirit, chop, pickaxe | ×0 (immune) |
Blunt and slash are therefore the weapons of choice; guides name the Thunderblood and Frostfire sledges and the Thunderblood greatsword, with the heavy Protector set for melee, Vanguard for archers and Caller for mages (BisectHosting; see Weapons and Shields and Armor and Capes). Game8 suggests Fader's power with the Neckstabber trinket, because its doubled adrenaline gain keeps the trinket's healing available through a long fight (Forsaken Powers).
Phase one: the chains
In the first phase Kall fights with the chains he was bound with. Game8 lists a set of close-range chain attacks, all of which can be blocked or parried, and advises watching the chain rather than the giant's body and raising the shield just before the strike lands. BisectHosting breaks them into a Chain Slam (an overhead smash with one or both chains), a Chain Sweep (a wide horizontal swing), a Chain Whirl (a spin that deals physical and frost damage) and a Chain Lunge that closes distance (BisectHosting).
Throughout the fight Kall also raises tendrils, rooted growths that stay in the arena for a while: they slam anyone who comes close and fire bolts of lightning at anyone who keeps too far away, so the recommended distance from an active tendril is a medium one (Game8).
Phase two: the gauntlet of the Forsaken
When the first health bar is gone Kall seals himself inside a block of ice, becomes immune to every kind of damage, and throws seven projectiles that land as "aspects" of the bosses the player has already killed (Valheim Wiki; Game8). They carry the same names as the game's boss achievements: the Aspect of the Lightning Stag (Eikthyr), the Living Forest (The Elder), the Writhing Dead (Bonemass), the Dragon Mother (Moder), the Twisted Soul (Yagluth), the Crawling Matriarch (The Queen) and the Emerald Flame (Fader) (games.gg). Each is weaker than the original, but they keep the signature attacks: the Living Forest's roots, the Dragon Mother's ice breath, the Twisted Soul's meteors and beam, and the Emerald Flame's ring of fire.
The aspects come in sequence and overlap: killing one calls up the next, so that two or three are often loose at once. That is why Game8's main advice for this phase is to leave the Elder or Bonemass aspect alive as long as possible rather than clearing everything, which would otherwise put the late-game aspects in the arena together (Game8). Kall's ice block cannot be hurt during the gauntlet, but his own beam can still reach a player hiding behind it. Patch 1.0.16 of Sep 25, 2026 fixed two bugs in the fight: some of its spawns could appear outside the boss area, and some could render incorrectly when the player stood in certain places (Iron Gate, Patch 1.0.16; Patches Since 1.0). Patch 1.0.21 of Oct 28, 2026 made the fight easier on the eyes and the feet: less screen shake on some of Kall's attacks, and half the burning damage from the ground fire left by the Fire Nova of his Yagluth aspect. It also fixed his drops falling through the floor (Iron Gate, Patch 1.0.21).
Phase three
The third and longest phase pits the player against 30,000 health and the strongest attacks. Two are new. The Corkscrew Launch is a spinning leap forward that can catch and throw the player; the Chain Whirl now adds fire damage, and a Chain Rush of repeated strikes joins the set (Game8; BisectHosting).
The other is the Ice Fall: Kall hooks both chains into the roof of The Prison and pulls down a barrage of ice spikes across the whole arena, which players compare to a meteor shower. There is no safe spot; the only defense is to keep moving between the falling spikes until the barrage ends (Game8). The arena's pillars block the chain attacks and give a moment to recover stamina, which Game8 calls the resource that decides the fight.
On death Kall drops the Crown Jewel and the Sacrificial Blood, both guaranteed, together with the recipe for the Crown of Valheim (Physgun; Game8). Neither item can pass through a portal, so the trip back to the Sacrificial Stones is made by sea (Portals; Sailing and Ships). Kall grants no Forsaken Power: there is no ninth stone at the altar to hang a trophy on, and none of the sources that document the fight describe one.
The Crown of Valheim
The Crown Jewel, with five Bloodgold at a level-four Black Forge, makes the Crown of Valheim, the final piece of headgear in the game (Game8). Its stats are modest for the tier, but its effect is unique:
| Crown of Valheim | |
|---|---|
| Armor | 50 |
| Weight | 1.0 |
| Durability | 1,000 |
| Movement speed | +5% |
| Attack, run, swim and sneak stamina use | −20% |
| Effect | Royalty: "The creatures of Valheim will not harm the one who has mastered them." |
Royalty means exactly what it says. With the crown on, no creature in the world attacks the wearer, even when struck first: greydwarfs walk past, a bear can be punched to death without answering. Bosses are the one exception. Iron Gate built it as the reward for finishing the game, so that a Viking who has cleared every biome can build anywhere in peace (Building and Structural Integrity). Full page: Crown of Valheim.
The ending
The Sacrificial Blood is placed at the center of the Sacrificial Stones, the starting circle, on a hook beneath the altar rather than on a new stone. Doing so summons Hugin, Munin and a Valkyrie; speaking to the Valkyrie ends the game (Valheim Wiki).
The animated ending, narrated over the same style of illustration as the 1.0 intro, closes the story told on Lore and Setting. The blood of the Forsaken soaks the stones and is felt through the world tree; in Valhalla, Odin sees the tenth world, nourished by "the dust of the Forsaken", rejoin Yggdrasil, and new tribes cross the rim of the world to reclaim the realm he once cut loose. The warrior is carried off by the Valkyrie one last time, and the credits roll (Sportskeeda). The game is not over afterwards: the world stays open, and the crown is meant for what comes next.
Name and background
Kall is the only boss whose name is a full name. "Jotun" is the Old Norse word for the giants who oppose the gods; "Fimbul" is the prefix of Fimbulvetr, the great winter that precedes Ragnarök, so "Fimbulbringer" reads as the one who brings the endless winter, which is what his invasions do to the biomes they land on. The chains, the prison and the title "The Shackled One" cast him as a prisoner rather than a native of Valheim, consistent with the intro cinematic, in which Odin drives the deathless creatures he could not kill into the tenth world and cuts it adrift (Lore and Setting; Iron Gate Studio).
Iron Gate kept the fight out of previews: SnazzyGames, who played the press build in June 2026, said the studio asked him not to spoil it ( SnazzyGames), and the launch reviews held the same line (TheGamer).
Frequently asked questions
How do you summon Kall Fimbulbringer? Offer three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl in the center of an Aesir Passage, which opens a portal into The Prison. Each blood takes an Intricate Key, a Gates of Mörkhalla dungeon and the Jotun Invasion that follows smashing the Malicious Ice at its bottom, so three of each are needed for one summoning.
How much health does Kall Fimbulbringer have? The Valheim Wiki gives him three pools, one per phase: 10,000, 7,000 and 30,000, or 47,000 altogether. Physgun's datamine lists a single figure of 40,000.
What is Kall Fimbulbringer weak to? Nothing. Blunt, slash and poison do full damage and everything else is resisted or ignored, so blunt and slash weapons such as the Thunderblood and Frostfire sledges are the usual picks.
Does Kall Fimbulbringer give a Forsaken Power? No. He leaves no trophy, there is no ninth stone at the Sacrificial Stones to hang one on, and none of the sources that document the fight describe a power.
What does the Crown of Valheim do? Its Royalty effect stops every creature in the world attacking the wearer, even one that has been struck first; only bosses are exempt. It also gives 50 armor, +5% movement speed and −20% stamina cost on attacking, running, swimming and sneaking.
