Seeker

The Seeker is the insect hive of Valheim's Mistlands: flying Seekers, armored Seeker Soldiers and larval Broods, with health by star level, every attack, spawn rules, drops (Carapace, Seeker Meat, Royal Jelly, Mandible), tactics and their bond to the Queen.

The Seeker is an insect-like creature of the Mistlands biome in Valheim: a winged, wolf-sized bug that hunts in groups, dives on players from the air and halves all physical damage. The name covers a whole hive, the ordinary flying Seeker, the armored Seeker Soldier and the larval Seeker Brood, which the game implies are all offspring of The Queen, the biome's boss (Seeker, Valheim Wiki). Seekers arrived with the Mistlands Update of Dec 6, 2022 and are the commonest enemy of the biome and its Infested Mines; the rest of its wildlife is on Mistlands Creatures.

The three kinds of Seeker

The ordinary Seeker has mandibles, six legs whose larger middle pair does the fighting, and leathery wings for short flights. The Seeker Soldier, listed as the Seeker Brute in the update's patch notes and still SeekerBrute in the game files, is a wingless stag-beetle of a tank. The Brood is a miniature Seeker with a soft yellow shell (Seeker Soldier, Seeker Brood, Valheim Wiki; Patch 0.212.7, Steam).

Seeker attacks

A grounded Seeker between 10 and 100 meters from a player takes off, and lands again within 5 meters, either normally or with a flying slam of 100 blunt. On the ground it sweeps its pincers every six seconds, thrusts with each claw on separate ten-second cooldowns, and rears up for a two-claw slam. The dive is faster than a sprinting Viking, but a Seeker crawls more slowly than one, so the moment to flee is just after it lands (Seeker, strategies, Valheim Wiki).

Seeker Soldier

The Soldier rams with its head, bites, and slams both claws for 120 blunt in a four-meter radius. The ram and slam also deal 100 chop and 100 pickaxe damage, so a Soldier smashes black marble, Yggdrasil shoots and the very rock an archer stands on. The rear of its abdomen is a weak point that takes 1.5 times damage from every physical and elemental type, shown by yellow numbers; FireSpark81 parries the ram and circles behind, where Frostner's slow keeps it from turning (Seeker Soldier, Valheim Wiki). It cannot fly and often jams in a mine's entrance arch, where it can be whittled down.

Seeker Broods

Broods hatch from the egg clusters of the Infested Mines. Stepping near an egg and breaking it each carry a 50 percent chance of a hatch, 75 percent combined. With 20 health they die to any blow; Ooze and Bile bombs clear a swarm (Seeker Brood, Valheim Wiki).

Where Seekers spawn

Place Seeker Soldier Brood
Mistlands by day up to 2, one star at most up to 1 none
Mistlands at night up to 6 up to 1 up to 5 after the Queen
Infested Mines fixed points, some respawn every 4 hours fixed points from eggs
Other biomes at night up to 2 after the Queen none none
"They sought you out" raid up to 3 none up to 8

The raid unlocks when Yagluth dies and ends when the Queen does. It can strike a base in the Black Forest, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands or Deep North, and because Seekers fly, walls do not stop it (Events, Valheim Wiki; Raids and Events).

How to kill a Seeker

A Viking arriving from the Plains can handle single Seekers with a shield. FireSpark81 eats high-health food, wears Fenris armor for speed and parries each lunge, landing two hits before the next; Frostner is his choice because its frost slows the target (Parrying and Blocking; Frostner).

Three or more call for range. Fire and poison are not resisted, so the poison of the Draugr Fang bow works, fired while kiting; steep high ground is better, since Seekers struggle to reach a player on it. With a tower shield, his method is to stand with his back to rock, block until they stop flying, then shoot (Bows, Crossbows and Arrows).

In Mistlands gear, Carapace armor lets almost any weapon parry them, Carapace bolts from the Arbalest stagger a Seeker, an atgeir's heavy spin knocks it off ledges, and the Staff of Embers and Mistwalker bring fire and frost (strategies, Valheim Wiki; Magic and Staves). Against a Soldier, one player parries from the front while another hits the abdomen; soloists use Dead Raiser skeletons as the decoy.

Seeker drops

Creature 0 stars 1 star 2 stars Trophy
Seeker 1 Seeker Meat, 1 Carapace 2 each 4 each 10%
Seeker Soldier 2–3 Carapace, 1 Mandible, 1 Meat 4–6, 1, 2 8–12, 1, 4 5%
Seeker Brood Royal Jelly (50%) none none none

Carapace is the heavy armor of the tier: the helmet, breastplate and greaves take 56 to craft and 224 to reach quality 4, and, unlike metals, Carapace passes through Portals. It also makes the Carapace shield, buckler and spear and the best arrows and bolts of the Mistlands (Carapace, Carapace Armor, Valheim Wiki; Armor and Capes). Seeker Meat cooks only on an Iron Cooking Station, into 60 health and 20 stamina, and goes raw into the Meat Platter and the eitr food Seeker Aspic with Magecaps and Royal Jelly (Food and Cooking; Eitr). Royal Jelly also feeds the Major Healing mead base and Yggdrasil Porridge (Mead and Potions).

The Mandible goes into the Carapace helmet and spear, the Himminafl and the Resounding Shackle trinket, whose other rare part is the Seeker trophy (Mandible, Resounding Shackle, Valheim Wiki). Since 1.0 four Mandibles also build the Grappling Hook at the Black Forge (KeenGamer).

Seekers and the Queen

The Queen is a larva-bodied Seeker matriarch with a Soldier's mandibles. Her first fight needs a Sealbreaker assembled from fragments found in the mines; later fights are summoned with three Soldier trophies. In battle she roars to hatch Seekers and Broods from holes in the Infested Citadel, and her spit can spawn Broods. Killing her retires both Mistlands raids and unlocks Seeker night spawns in five earlier biomes (The Queen, Valheim Wiki).

History and 1.0 changes

Patch 0.212.9 let Seekers circle instead of pressing constantly and cut Soldier spawns to Troll-like rates; 0.213.4 made them more aggressive again and added post-Queen night spawns (0.212.9, 0.213.4, Steam). The Deep North Update (1.0 Patch Notes) of Sep 9, 2026 left their stats alone but made every Mistlands weapon clear mist, made Mistlands gear more durable and reworked rare drops so trophies cannot elude a hunter indefinitely (Valheim 1.0 Has Arrived!, Steam).

Frequently asked questions

Can you tame a Seeker in Valheim? No. Seekers, Soldiers and Broods are all hostile and cannot be tamed or bred.

What are Seekers weak to? Nothing on the body: they halve blunt, pierce and slash and ignore spirit, so fire, frost, lightning and poison are the efficient damage. A Soldier's abdomen takes 1.5 times damage.

How much Carapace do you need for Carapace armor? 56 crafts the helmet, breastplate and greaves, and 224 takes all three to quality 4.

Why are Seekers attacking my base outside the Mistlands? Either the "They sought you out" raid, active between Yagluth's death and the Queen's, or night spawns in earlier biomes after the Queen dies.
